Diamond Fine Jewelry Inspired by Georges Melies

April 7, 2017

Georges Méliès was one the most innovative and prolific filmmakers of his generation. In the late 1800s, Méliès began his artistry, quickly establishing admiration and respect as he was the first filmmaker to successfully form stories, build gorgeous set designs, and most notably for creating illusions with jump cut and other tricks that sparkled and made his audience fall in love. His most popular film was released in 1902 and was called Le Voyage dans la Lune, also known as, A Trip to the Moon. We couldn’t help but make some comparisons to some of our favorite pieces of diamond necklaces, diamond earrings, diamond bracelets, and diamond rings collection. During this golden age, jewelers pulled inspiration from ancient civilizations to develop this nouveau style using fine diamonds, silver, and gold with geometric shapes. Shapes that particularly became a massive craze were moons and stars. Here are some starry-eyed diamond necklaces that are sure to stand out and throw you back to the French gold age of dreams and glamour.

  1. The Lorelei Collar by Hearts On Fire

This gorgeous choker necklace by Hearts On Fire is impeccably made. Choker and lariat styles were very popular during this time because they complemented a woman’s decolletage sitting pretty on collarbones or elongating their figures. The Lorelei Collar comes in 18-karat rose and yellow gold and is dripping in round diamonds in a pavé setting. It is nothing short of what is expected from the beloved brand Hearts On Fire. Whoever gets to wear this piece will definitely be noticed wherever they may go and is the perfect gift for that special someone. The design of this gorgeous piece was influenced by the “look and feel of lace”. The two dropped strands in the front of the necklace gives an illusion of a posh tie. With it’s unique and intricate blend of sparkle and polish, this piece is bound to be passed down as the next family heirloom. The counterpart of this diamond necklace is a clip from A Trip to the Moon where the moon and stars became guardian angels for the tired crew getting some well deserved rest from their tough journey far away from home. They hover and circulate before drifting off to let the rain wake them for the next day.

2. The Illa Comet Pendant by Hearts on Fire

Although this photograph of Georges Méliès’s second wife Jehanne d’Alcy is not from A Trip to the Moon, it is from another film called L’éclipse du soleil en pleine lune. In English that’s The Eclipse: Courtship of the Sun and Moon. d’Alcy was Méliès’s favorite actress and starred (no pun intended) in a number of his films including A Trip to the Moon, Cleopatra’s Tomb, Alcofribas, the Master Magician, and many others. She was his costume designer, muse, lover, and the star of his life. The comparisons here with this dreamy photo of Jehanne and Hearts On Fire’s gorgeous Illa Comet pendant are obvious with the silver star and trailing stardust. It is a perfect gift for daughters, wives, and significant others because of it’s simplicity yet bold glamour and can be easily worn as a go to piece all day long. This piece comes in 18-karat white gold and has round diamonds in a prong setting. Whoever receives this as a gift from a loved one is the only star that matters in their life.

3. The Stars and Moons Necklace by KC Designs

This glitzy photograph of famous Austrian actress Gerda Maurus is not at all from a Georges Méliès film but the inspiration of her outfit is certainly inspired by his innovative work as he was the first filmmaker to innovate basically everything important in the silent film era of cinema. Moyer Fine Jewelers is an authorized retailer for KC Designs, Hearts On Fire, John Hardy, and many more with beautiful deco inspired pieces. This starburst-like pendant by KC Designs is called the Stars and Moons necklace and is part of the Stars and Moons collection. This quirky and playful pendant diamond necklace comes in 14-karat white, yellow, and rose gold with round diamonds in a pavé setting on a standard cable chain. Having this type of jewelry not only makes a simple outfit a more put together because of the iridescent sparkle in the center of the collarbones but also would be cute to stack together with other chains and pieces from KC Designs or other trusted brands for a glittering constellation-like look. The Stars and Moons necklace is a beautiful addition for a dressed up occasion and is a coquette little detail.

This clip here is also from The Eclipse: Courtship of the Sun and Moon during the part where neighboring moons and planets ogle the female stars. Each planet and moon tires to get the star to fall in love with one of them as the sky is filled with enough love to go around. Personally we think the wooing situation would have been so much easier if the planet or moon had this to-die-for Tacori Petite Crescent engagement ring to present to the star. Any lady star would say “yes” in less than a second at the sight of this glistening rock. Moyer Fine Jewelry has got a gorgeous selection of diamond rings where you can find this particular one and is an authorized retailer of Tacori. This ring has timeless appeal with it’s marquise style stone shape and pavé setting. Underneath the showstopping diamond is a very vintage style construction that is adorned with smaller diamonds to reflect more light. It’s antique design would make anyone that wears it never want to take it off until the day they die. Made with either 14-karat yellow, white, or rose gold, only one diamond is enough – said no one ever in the history of the world.

5. Luvente Earrings E1099-PSA.R

This clip here from A Trip to the Moon is when the female crew waves goodbye to the brave six men who just boarded the rocket that would take them straight to the moon. The counterpart of this image matches perfectly with this pair of diamond and gemstone encrusted earrings. What makes these earring particularly special is the fact that it’s a multicolored design and is in a classic pavé setting on 14-karat rose gold. Sometimes people are afraid of a little bit of color in their jewelry because they might fall in the trendy category of a certain time but these earrings are absolutely timeless. They are so different from what people normally gravitate to. Even with a little bit of light exposure, the lucky woman wearing these gems would sparkle with deep wine reds and sugary lavender diamonds and sapphire twinkles. The drop style could be paired with a simple outfit in a red color range or a classic little black dress. Surely, everywhere these go will attract the desired attention. They also look really comfortable since the backs of them are push on’s so the weight of the earring itself isn’t relying on a hook weighing down your earlobe.
