Pearl Jewelry: How to Wear this Lavish Jewelry Trend

Classic clothing and accessories always make their way back to the runways, and this time, it’s all about the femininity, sophistication and modern edge that pearl jewelry is creating. Pearls, like the ones from Mastoloni, evoke images other than the ladies who lunch. Contemporary pearl pieces are exquisite on both young and mature women and can enhance any ensemble.

Traditional pearls usually meant strings of necklaces years ago, but now, pearl jewelry has streamlined into stunning pieces that make chic fashion statements with just a touch of the gem to highlight the jewelry. For instance, during haute couture fashion week, Alexandre Vauthier had the models wear a single pearl earring dangling on a chain. The pearl look can easily be added to the wardrobe any time of the season. Keep reading for our favorite pearl looks.

Diamond Fine Jewelry Inspired by Georges Melies

By on April 7, 2017

Georges Méliès was one the most innovative and prolific filmmakers of his generation. In the late 1800s, Méliès began his artistry, quickly establishing admiration and respect as he was the first filmmaker to successfully form stories, build gorgeous set designs, and most notably for creating illusions with jump cut and other tricks that sparkled and made his audience fall in love. His most popular film was released in 1902 and was called Le Voyage dans la Lune, also known as, A Trip to the Moon. We couldn’t help but make some comparisons to some of our favorite pieces of diamond necklaces, diamond earrings, diamond bracelets, and diamond rings collection. During this golden age, jewelers pulled inspiration from ancient civilizations to develop this nouveau style using fine diamonds, silver, and gold with geometric shapes. Shapes that particularly became a massive craze were moons and stars. Here are some starry-eyed diamond necklaces that are sure to stand out and throw you back to the French gold age of dreams and glamour.

Jewel of the Month: Topaz

By on October 31, 2016
Earrings -- Sterling Silver Fashion Rings -- Benari Jewelers -- Exton, PA

The birthstone for those born in the month of November, the bright green, blue, orange, yellow, pink, and more, topaz has had a long and storied history of popularity and usage. In and out of the fine jewelry world, topaz has been the favored gemstone for tons of civilizations, and has brought with it a number of different meanings and significations along the way.

A Brief History of Topaz:

Origins and Meanings:

Named for St. John’s Island, as well as possibly the Sanskrit word “tapas”, meaning heat or fire, topaz was first originally used by the Ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago. The Egyptians believed that the stone had been given its orange color by Sun God Ra and was thought to protect from injury and grant invisibility. As time went on, topaz became an incredibly popular stone among the Greeks, Romans, and Indians, who all considered the stone one of the more magically-imbued materials available.

During the era of the Renaissance (around the 1300s to the 1600s) topaz was thought of to bring the wearer intelligence, beauty, as well as to help resist poisons and cure lunacy.

More recently, with the finding of massive supplies of the stone in Utah, topaz has become renowned in the jewelry world for its range of colors, its opulent brilliance, and the unique way it glows when polished.

Famous Topaz:

Additionally, there are tons of massive pieces of topaz, including the Lindsay Uncut, the American Golden, and the Freeman Uncut (pictured), that can be found in museums many of history’s most impressive jewelry pieces have involved, in some way or another, topaz.

One example of this is the enormous “Braganza Diamond”. Originally thought to be a gigantic diamond, the “Braganza Diamond” is actually a 1680-caray colorless diamond, and today can be found adorning the Portuguese Crown Jewels.

Attributes of Topaz:

In nature, topaz can be found in an incomparable variety of colors that vastly range in rarity and quality. As well as being the gemstone for the state of Utah, orange topaz is the color that is traditionally considered the birthstone for individuals born in the month of November.

In addition to the more common orange topaz, they can also be found in the Imperial variety (yellow and pink), as well as the Brazilian Imperial type, which is generally of a bright yellow or deep golden brown coloring. Further, blue topaz, the state gemstone of Texas, is considered the rarest color of topaz. As a result, the necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and fashion rings that feature blue topaz are extremely valuable and in high demand by jewelry collectors.

Adding topaz to your jewelry box is an easy and striking way to add a fun and stylish splash of vivid color to any ensemble, outfit, or situation. Some of our favorite pieces here at PDJ include:

The Perfect Jewelry Items for Today’s Popular Halloween Costumes

By on October 26, 2016
Halloween Jewelry -- Fashion Jewelry -- Gemstone Earrings -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

It’s Halloween time again! It’s that time of the season for tricks, treats, spooks, ghouls, candy, and costumes. We here at PJD absolutely love Halloween, and as you know we also love jewelry! Combining these two interests of ours, we’ve taken some of this year’s most popular costumes and put together a guide for finding the ideal jewelry items that are sure to take any outfit to the next level.

Halloween Jewelry - Kevin's Fine Jewelry

1. Harley Quinn

Due to the huge (financial) success that was Suicide Squad, expect this year to see tons of people dressed up as the queen of crime, meaning of course, Harley Quinn. While the on-screen relationship between Harley Quinn and The Joker leaves a bit to be desired, there’s no arguing that viewers were entranced with Margot Robbie’s mean, manic, and fun portrayal of this legendary comic book character.

The Look:

Dressing like someone put Vivienne Westwood, Betsy Johnson, with a splash of Courtney Love in a blender, Harley Quinn’s style is punky, punchy, and a cheeky (pardon the pun). From what we saw in Suicide Squad, Harley seems to be a big fan of gold jewelry. Through the movie she’s seen wearing large gold rings, chandelier-style hanging gold earrings, and big gleaming gold spike bracelets.

Halloween Jewelry - Kevin's Fine Jewelry

Even in scenes in where she isn’t wearing the now-iconic “Daddy’s Little Monster” t-shirt, Harley Quinn can be seen covered in gold, generally sporting hoop-style gold earrings, and multiple strands of asymmetrical gold necklaces.

Recently, fashion jewelry designers have re-kindled their age-old love affair with gold. In the past few years, fashion and bridal jewelry designers such as A. Jaffe, Simon G., John Hardy, Michael Kors, and others, have made stunning gold jewelry items that would be sure to make Harley Quinn squeal.

Simon G -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

Instead of a spikey gold bracelet, try something like this bangle bracelet from Simon G. With its bright diamonds and gold accents this bracelet is something that you’d be sure to wear more than just Halloween night. Additionally, there is tons of stackable gold rings gold rings and dangly gold earrings available at most fine jewelry retailers. Many of which that would perfectly encapsulate the punk-glam look of Harley.

2. Wonder Woman

On the other side of the DC Cinematic Universe, Wonder Woman is sure to be an extremely popular costume this year. With appearances in this year’s Batman V. Superman, the upcoming Justice League, and her own standalone film, Gal Gadot’s interpretation of Wonder Woman is here to stay.

Halloween Jewelry -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

The Look:

As opposed to the bright, starts-and-stripes clad outfit of yesteryear, Wonder Woman’s modern outfit features a darker, gold-like coloring, matching the darker tone of the upcoming films. Luckily for fans, this outfit still features Wonder Woman’s signature gold cuffs, and gold headband.

Get this Jewelry Look:

While most jewelry stores probably won’t have gold headbands (unless you’re looking somewhere like Etsy), you can still find plenty of other items to help complete any Wonder Woman outfit.

For the gold cuffs, try stacking multiple bracelets, or find a wrist wrap bracelet like this one from Officina Bernardi.

Also, try large gold gemstone rings, from designers like Madison L or Simon G. While Wonder Woman might not regularly wear rings, no one is going to want to risk telling that to anyone wearing great big rings.

Bonus Look!:

If strapping yourself into Wonder Woman’s leather ensemble isn’t for you, try going as WW’s alter ego, Diane Prince. In Batman V. Superman, Diane can be wearing a array of striking gold jewelry items including an impressive collection of stunning gold choker-style necklaces, as well as gleaming gold bracelets.

3. Witch

Always a perennial favorite, witch costumes are a great and effectively spooky last-minute costume. This season’s witch costumes are sure to include styles that range from the Wicked Witch of the West, to the goth-glam witches of American Horror Story: Coven, and everything in between.

The Look:

Regardless of which witch you choose to dress up as this season, one thing is for certain, you’re going wear a lot of black. The most successful witch outfits generally include a skirt or a dress, lots of layers, as well as an array of sinister jewelry including, pendant necklaces, dark-colored gemstone rings, and nature-inspired earrings.

Get this Jewelry Look:

To make things a little simpler, we’ve broken this down into what we’ve been seeing as the three major categories of witch costumes for 2016:

Halloween Jewelry -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

  • “Classic” Witch:

Less is more with this witch costume. Try dark colored and simple jewelry items, such as this Madison L. fashion ring, and this pendant necklace from Brother Wolf. Both are sure to add a subtle, yet spooky, addition to any costume.

  • The Craft:

Halloween Jewelry -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

Inspired by the 1996 cult film, The Craft, dressing Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and the gang is becoming an increasingly popular costume, due to the way it seamlessly combines 90’s nostalgia with seasonal spookiness. The best jewelry items for this look are simple black chokers, pendant necklaces that feature iconography like crosses and birds, and tight, boldly-adorned gemstone bracelets.

Cross Necklaces -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

  • American Horror Story: Coven:

Halloween Jewelry -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

Putting the goth back in Southern Gothic, the outfits of these witches brings the classic witch aesthetic into the 21st century. A combination of classic witch style with the high school witches of The Craft, these witches-in-training can be spotted wearing items with dark-colored gemstones, as well as simple bright diamond earrings and fashion rings.

4. Vampire

Halloween Jewelry -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

Another perennial Halloween favorite, dressing up as a vampire, whether it be some kind of Dracula or something else, is always a stylish and easy costume choice.

The Look:

Simple, elegant, and suave, vampires are meant to be flawlessly dressed from head to toe. A vampire’s impeccable outfit should be accented with simple, yet bold, pendant necklaces (remember, no crosses!), as well as distinctive gemstone-adorned rings.

Get this Jewelry Look:

For the perfect, simple but significant ring, look for brands like established fashion ring designers Michael Kors, Madison L., or even Gucci. Also look for simple, pendant necklaces such as this necklace from Brother Wolf.

Gold Pendant Necklaces -- Kevin's Fine Jewelry

If you really want to take the vampire look to the next level, look for a classic-style pocket watch, which will make sure that your look will hypnotize.

5. Guy Fieri:

A favorite around the PDJ office, we know a few people this season who are planning to take their ‘stumes to Flavortown. Everyone’s favorite connoisseur of diners, drive-ins, as well as dives, dressing up as this hometown hero is a sure way to take your Halloween to the next level.

Get this Jewelry Look:

In addition to his signature spiky locks and trademark goatee, all you need to really nail the Guy Fieri look is a thick sterling silver or gold chain-link necklace, as well as single bright gold earring.
