The Definitive Guide to Mother of the Bride Jewelry

July 31, 2017
Mother and Daughter Wedding Prep

With all the duties to take care of in the weeks before the wedding, it’s easy to forget how important the other women in the wedding are. Yes, yes, the bride tribe is second to none, but in this case, we mean the mother of the bride (and the mother of the groom of course). Often overlooked, a child’s wedding day can be just as important to the parents as it is to the bride and groom themselves. And wanting to show their support for the couple, mothers often enjoy the opportunity to proudly stand out on the day of their child’s wedding!

As such, we’ve prepared some tips and tricks for helping bride mamas look their best without stealing the attention away from their daughters.

Tip #1: Don’t over accessorize!

With such an important event, it is easy to get carried away and want to go all out with the finest, biggest jewelry pieces, but wedding are a special exemption. Depending on the dress you are choosing to wear, the general rule is to pick one larger, more attention grabbing piece, and then complement the ensemble with an array of smaller items. Choosing one jewelry piece to feature brings a nice balance to your look.

Madison L Diamond Necklace Available at Rumanoff's Fine Jewelry

Always shockingly elegant, a pendant necklace is a great base for any jewelry ensemble, but even better is a diamond necklace. Try choosing a diamond pendant with one bold, unique color, possibly similar to the color palette your young bride has chosen and add a touch of class with a glittering, shimmering array of subtle, but brilliant white diamonds.

From Madison L (model #DN4643), this diamond necklace seems perfect for mothers. The lovely sideways oval shape brings out a higher sophisticated elegance and the chalcedony stone is a unique choice that is sure to incite more than a few compliments from other guests.

Tip #2: Go for Classics

The mother-of-the-bride is typically the example for classic grace and beauty. As such, why not try to work in timeless accessories such as pearls and stud earrings (or why not a combinations of both?).

Madison L Pearl Essentials Earrings Available at Rumanoff's Fine Jewelry

Always in fashion, pearl studs are the way to go for a classic, old-Hollywood look. Also from Madison L, classic pearl studs take on a modern twist in these diamond adorned stunners. From their Pearl Essentials collection, these earrings (Model #PE1399) showcase an added oomph to the traditional pearl stud earrings. Paired with an elegant up-do and a lovely shawl, mother’s can expect a winning look.

Tip #3: Get Bride Approval

We know all you mothers want to look your best, but no mother wants to steal the attention away from the bride. As part of bridal time etiquette, we recommend you ask for your bride’s approval on your planned look. For an extra memorable experience, we hope brides include their mothers (and soon to be mother’s in-law) in all the wedding shopping, but we understand that some simply have too much on their plate and may have trouble accommodating a day for everyone to pick out jewelry together. If that’s the case, we recommend you get jewelry (and outfit for that matter) approval prior to the big day.

Tacori Gemstone Fashion Ring Available at Rumanoff's Fine Jewelry

Your pretty bride will not be able to refuse a beautiful gemstone fashion ring such as this stunner from the artisans at Tacori.  Crafted in a vintage style and featuring a bold topaz oval stone on a sterling silver band, this ring (Model # SR13902) brings out the delicate features of the wearer and complements an array of soft, neutral colors. But for those who are looking for something in a darker shade, Tacori creates a plethora of colored gemstones, so many that Tacori enthusiasts are certain to find their ideal color match.

Tip #4: Opt for Comfort

The most important rule to abide by in any ensemble is aiming for comfort. Nothing is worse than spending a whole day in discomfort. Often, we find that less is more and this can be true for many mama’s and for many sensible or alternate brides. If you are not a necklace wearing gal, then go without. If you prefer, make a statement with that one bold piece of jewelry that you are often seen wearing and are comfortable in.

Simon G Diamond Bracelet Available at Clowes Jewellers

For those of you bracelet wearing ladies,  Simon G creates a stunning array of diamond bracelets perfect for special occasions and for continued use onto everyday. A shinning example of their unique and stellar bracelets is this diamond marvel (model #LB2060). Crafted from 18-karat white gold and featuring round and baguette diamonds, this bracelet is convenient for women who love the luxury of diamonds, but don’t want the heavy feel of bulky jewelry.

Whether you choose to go with many diamond and gemstone adorned pieces or with a single spectacular piece, we hope you get to share in the joy of the momentous day with your daughter because come the big day, nothing will beat the elation you will feel as she walks down the aisle to the love of her life.
